About Adrian

I Began taking photographs over thirty years ago. From the very beginning I was enthralled and captivated by the world presented by means of light and shadow. As some one with out any draughtsmanship or facility with brush and pen, I found the camera, and more importantly the darkroom, enabled me to realise the world I observed. More recently the advent of the digital world has replaced the gloom and magical odours of the print room but I still adopt the same approach and techniques, with Adobe lightroom as my platform of choice ( can’t get my head around layers and the composite approach of Photoshop). The work I make is informed and originates from many influences, both painters and photographers in particular :

Romantic painters
Caspar David Friedrich
Joseph Mallord William Turner

American Tonalism
Charles Warren Eaton
Birge Harrison

Pictorialism
Alfred Stieglitz (Camera Work)
Henry Peach Robinson (The Linked Ring)
